Friuli Venezia Giulia
Friuli Venezia Giulia is known to be homeland to great white wines, internationally acclaimed for their elegance and structure. The best fruits of the region include the native Ribolla Gialla, Friulano and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso; but also international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet and Sauvignon find favourable conditions for producing high-quality wines.
The most notable terroir of the region is Collio, located between the Julian Alps and the Adriatic Sea, in a perfect position as far as the microclimate is concerned, with relatively mild temperatures and dry weather. The soil consists of marl and sandstone, and is rich in salt, minerals and microelements: this results in wines characterised by an interesting backbone, depth and balance.
